Homeopathy: Natural Remedy for Glaucoma

Homeopathy For Glaucoma

An eye disorder which normally occurs later in life, glaucoma involves raised intraocular pressure and damage to the optic nerve.

If not treated on time, it may even lead to a permanent vision loss.

In the front part of the eye there is a space known as the anterior chamber. Eye fluid known as aqueous humour passes through the same and maintains effective lubrication. It drains out through space where iris meets the cornea.

Here at this point the fluid passes out and leaves the eye.

Now when this fluid is unable to pass properly or build up, it remains over the eye and builds up intraocular pressure causing optic nerve damage to the optic nerve which  transmits images to the brain.

Symptoms of Glaucoma

The first indication of you having glaucoma is the loss of peripheral or side vision

• Eye redness
• Hazy eyes
• Pain in eye
• Narrow vision
• Nausea
• Vomiting

Early homeopathic remedy can help provide you relief from the symptoms and help prevent the eye from further damage

Risk factors

Though it is more common in people over 60 years of age glaucoma can happen at any age including young adults, children, and infants.

• African-American Over 40 years
• Family history
• Diabetes
• Certain medications
• Weak vision

For the early stages, the symptoms may go unnoticed and may even cause irreversible damage.

Thus if you have a family history of glaucoma or come under the susceptible age, get your eye tests done.

So if you have a family tendency of glaucoma, you are at an increased risk of this eye disorder.

Some less common reasons that might cause glaucoma are blocked blood vessels inside the eye, eye infection, inflammatory condition, eye injury etc.

Types of Glaucoma

Open-Angle Glaucoma

It is the most common type of glaucoma.

Fluid builds up over the front part of the eye causing pressure damaging the optic nerve.

At the front part of the eye is a space known as the anterior chamber. Here the eye fluid continuously flows in and out to nourish the tissues.

To leave this chamber, it flows through a drain angle between the iris and cornea.

When this fluid flows too slowly, it may build up in this region causing open-angle glaucoma.

This causes a pressure buildup and damages the optic nerve.

Closed-Angle Glaucoma

When the drain space between the iris and cornea becomes narrow, the drainage angle gets blocked. Here the fluid is not able to move out leading to a sudden increase in the eye pressure.

This is an acute attack and needs urgent medical help.

Some other symptoms one may feel include, blurred vision, pain, nausea and redness of the eye.

Congenital Glaucoma

This happens as a result of the problem in drainage angle since birth which causes the build-up of fluid.

Surgery is suggested and if it is done well can help restore the vision.

This is a normal tension or low tension glaucoma

Under normal eye pressure, the optic nerve is damaged and narrowed side vision occurs.

Drawbacks of Conventional Treatment

Under conventional mode of glaucoma treatment, medications or surgery are suppressive since they don’t deal with the underlying cause.

The prescribed eye drops or medications may provide temporary relief by reducing the production of eye fluid.

This approach is outward and may cause other side effects.

Homeopathic remedies regulate the production of fluid and its drainage by working with natural healing forces.

A proper treatment under a qualified homeopath helps

These remedies ensure that the retina starts receiving natural blood circulation and thereby nourish the eye tissues and help prevent further damage.

A homeopath will also guide you with the required diet and vitamins

Some other kinds of glaucoma include secondary glaucoma which occurs as a result of certain medical conditions

Common causes of glaucoma

• Heredity
• Nutritional deficiency
• Prescription drugs
• Other eye disorders
• Slow metabolism

Glaucoma Natural Remedy

Normally it is more common in African American people over age 40.

A homeopath studies various patterns before prescribing the remedies. Homeopathic remedies help stimulate the natural drainage of the aqueous fluid such that pressure doesn’t build up.

Homeopathic remedies are prescribed targeting specific underlying causes.

By using similar substances that cause glaucoma in the first place such as building up of fluid and narrowing of the drainage channel, homeopathy through the law of similars prescribe with remedies that in low diluted amounts can heal this disorder.

Various factors including your mental, emotional and physical health are given consideration while prescribing with remedies for glaucoma.

No two glaucoma patients are treated the same way.

A homeopath may also consider your lifestyle, exposure to environmental toxins, nutritional deficiencies, certain medications, high-stress levels or illnesses/disorder.

Finally making an overall analysis, a homeopath prescribes remedies. As these are natural and safe, you will not face any side effects.
